The single-bedroom house is arranged around the central conceit of appearing solid and hermetic from the outside, but revealing itself to have an open, translucent floor plan once inside.
The eponymous beam carries the second floor above the main living space which is walled by a non-structural glass wall. The resulting interior is then closely connected to a private garden that frames the ground floor living room.
